Dennis Gates’ impact already felt at Cleveland State

Each film session came with a new assessment of ways to improve team performance on and off the court. No play became overlooked. No game omitted.

Dennis Gates and his staff have revisited each game from last season, watching film back on things they find can and should be done differently moving forward. Building the program back up is centered around three main areas: the classroom, community and on the court.

St. Vincent-St. Mary cruises past Brush behind Ramar Pryor’s 24 points

St. Vincent-St. Mary senior guard Isaiah Ingol is the type of player that does the little things to help his team win, not always stuffing the stat sheet with numbers. Sophomore point guard Ramar Pryor came off the bench and finished the night with a game-high 24 points. According to head coach Dru Joyce, it’s Ingol’s leadership role that gives the team the spark they need.
“Isaiah is our leader,” Joyce explained. “He does all the stuff that doesn’t get in the stat sheet. It’s that vocal leadership and making some of the other guys understand the leeway. That’s what is important and that’s why we’ve been good.”

Mentor head coach Bob Krizancic explained to his team Saturday night that he has been apart of the district final a combined 25 times, both as a player and a coach in his basketball career. “I’ve been just so fortunate and it gets better because of this feeling right here,” Krizancic said. “This is how good it is. It gets better and more nervous. Our guys were prepared for this game.”
